Resonance: Rhythm in You - Our Hero - Pt 1

Greetings itch.io community, and thank you for taking the time to  read this!

Resonance: Rhythm in You's alpha prototype has been on the platform for less than a week, and already we have over 550 views and over 100 downloads! I can't speak to the average, but that's far more than I ever thought when posting this prototype (I originally just did it to have a better centralized download point!). Not only that, but the game has been prevalent in the Popular and New sections, and has even been in the top 3 of rhythm games, so that's super cool too!

Big thanks to everyone who's played, especially those who have taken the time to write a comment or follow us.

The Resonance Games team is continuing to reach out to talented artists to try and develop the assets that we'd like to have in the final game. To that end, I wanted to share some things with you today. Chances are posts in the future will be shorter than this, but the itch.io community probably hasn't had the chance to see some of the stuff we've worked on the last couple months.

The first image is the concept of our Hero character. Done by the talented Barret Frymire (https://barretfrymire.myportfolio.com/), this is the Hero character I imagined you running around with in the alpha prototype. As mentioned on the game's page, most of the assets in the alpha prototype are placeholder, meant to capture the feeling and mood of the final project. The art assets in particular were done by the amazingly talented Luis Zuno (https://ansimuz.itch.io/ here on itch), and were graciously free to use, even commercially!

However our end goal is to capture our own art style, and so we worked with Barret to develop the high rendered character for which we would base our eventual pixel-art aesthetic. We decided to do a high resolution render first, as we thought it would be much simpler to go down to pixel-art then it would be to upscale a pixel-art character (if we ever had the need down the road).

The following two gifs are done by two separate artists. The first by @zak_amana on Twitter, who helped realize the concept art into it's pixel-art form. The second, the run animation, was done by @gatekid3 on Twitter, who has agreed to help Resonance Games to finish the suite of animations we'll need to create our true prototype, and vertical slice of our game.

My dream is to eventually see Resonance: Rhythm in You become a full-featured game, with 6-8 hours of core content and several more of side content. It's a slow process to start a game studio and an even harder one to find funding and the people you need, but the positive feedback we've received here on itch.io has spurred me with a burst of new energy that will take us into the new year.

I'll be doing more personal updates here periodically as we reveal new artwork etc... but if you'd like to stay in the loop elsewhere, please join us on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/resonancegamescommunity or follow me on Twitter @Trinity_Xtreme for shorter updates!

I'd also love to hear what you think about our character's true design, and his pixel-art rendition. I'm happy to answer any questions about the game as well, so don't hesitate to reach out. Resonance Games hopes to be a studio fully committed to open communication with its fans, and I can't wait to share more.

...can you hear the music?
